Again with the boy troubles

I guess I shouldn't have gotten your hopes up with my last post. Despite that guy being a.) nice, b.) Christian, and c.) close to my age, in the end he had no interest in me. They never do. Maybe I scare away young, nice, Christian guys away with my, er...intensity. I guess we'll never know. Thus, the search continues.

In other news, I found out that one of my cousins just won a major cross-dressing beauty pageant in Ohio. He even makes his own costumes, too! We have so much in common... I'm so proud... :-P

I had a blind date a couple of weeks ago. Nothing came of it, though he seemed like a nice guy and was obviously interested in me. I just didn't reciprocate. The best part about it was that I suddenly remembered that my last blind date had been in college and the guy had sat at dinner working on a Rubik's cube the whole time and hardly talked to me. I had forgotten about that, but now I can tell that story and people think it is just hilarious!

We got some new guys at work but none of them could recognize a picture of Darth Maul when I held it up, so obviously they won't work out. Yeah, seems like I've devised a system for weeding out the unworthy ones quickly, LOL.

Phil and I still fight, what else is new?

I just need to let go of wanting a relationship, family, babies...and just live my life. It's hard because I feel the majority of people I knew in college are in relationships and I feel like I'm running out of time. I know that biologically I have some time left, but at the same time I feel like I'm missing out on sharing these youthful years with my future partner, whoever he may be. Heavy sigh...

You know what my real problem is? I have no girlfriends around here so I'm obsessed with men right now because they are all I ever see anymore. And guys are dumb.

Sorry for the rambling blog tonight. I blame the full moon wreaking havoc on my sloshy body and causing the temporary insanity.

Well, what can I say?

I am sorry that I have not been updating my blog. I look at it from time to time and wonder what to say, but there hasn't been much to talk about. I guess at various times this blog has been my main place to talk about costuming, but I haven't been doing much of that since Dragon*Con. That's probably part of the reason I stopped posting for a while.

Anyway, since Amber asked for it, here I go with an update. ;-)

The first thing that comes to mind is snow. Lots of snow. Ridiculous amounts of snow in Minnesota. I know that the East Coast is getting hit now, but even before that we had about 3 major snowfalls/snowstorms before Christmas! You want to see something crazy? If you haven't already, check out this video of the Metrodome collapsing. It's like something out of a creepy alien movie, but it cracks me up every time I watch it.

The really hilarious thing is that I was in there about 36 hours before it happened. We were at an event on the football field for a Big Brothers/Big Sisters Christmas party and they had the temperature over 80 degrees in there. We were just dying in our costumes, especially those who were wearing leather or armor, but it was all done in an attempt to get the roof nice and toasty before the snow fell. Well, the snow fell, the roof fell, and we sweated in vain. Such is life...

When I'm not navigating terrible winter roads with my car, I have been performing in The Match Girl's Gift on the Minnesota Centennial Showboat. I just love my Victorian costume, and would love to recreate it someday when my skills are better.



Here's a view of the showboat. You can't see the city in this picture, but when I leave the boat at night, St. Paul is all lit up across the river and it's quite a beautiful scene.

Dragon*Con 2010

Well, kiddos...me-sa back! It has been a craaaaaazy year for convention attending, and it's finally done! (Well, except for one small comic book convention I have in a few weeks, but who's counting?)

Dragon*Con was quite different for me this year. It was definitely a lonely convention, and I didn't have very many people to hang out with most of the time, but overall I had a much better time than last year.

I'm just not feeling very narrative today, but I'll give you my top ten and bottom ten. Yes, I'm going to do a bottom ten. Like Strong Bad would... ;-)


TOP TEN - REASONS WHY D*C 2010 WAS GOOD THIS YEAR

1. Winning Best Skit in the Masquerade. Yes, losing 6 hours out of your day never felt so good.

2. Meeting Captain Janeway. Or at least, an awesome girl dressed like her from Texas. She was a theater major in college and we got along really well.

3. The Weasley twins. Not actually gingers, but two cute and charming guys nonetheless.

4. Taking a chance and standing in line for an hour for a panel you didn't think you were going to get into, and then JUST BARELY getting into it. Yeah, I totally got to see John de Lancie (aka Q from Star Trek).

5. Catnaps. Oh, but the cameras love me when I'm all cuddled up, "asleep" in a chair. This way I don't get blinded by the flashes. :-D

6. Having a room at the Marriott, 1st floor. Pure genius! (Note for Amber: this is actually one of the convention hotels where most of the action takes place. Very convenient.)

7. Going to panels. Aside from the fact that some were rather lame, at least I can say I actually did something this year.

8. Flying, not driving. Pure genius. Won't be so lucky next year.

9. Stuffing yourself full of Chik Fil-A sandwiches and waffle fries and lemonades all weekend. 'Cause you know it's going to be a whole 'nother year until you get some.

10. Senatorial Leia. It never gets old with the kids.


BOTTOM TEN - REASONS WHY I COULD DO BETTER NEXT YEAR

1. Accidentally booking a PM rather than AM flight to Atlanta. Yeah, that's right, you missed all of Friday, Dummy!

2. Sick roommates. What an incredible snore you've discovered!

3. Terrible questions asked to celebrities. Questions like, "What's the worst question you've ever been asked?" (Probably that one.)

4. The crowds, the noise, the whistles they blow in your face to keep you moving. Blech.

5. Peace-bonding. "Yes, this is a real gun and I kill you now. What? No, it's not real. It goes "byoo byoo" when you pull the trigger. What's that? I need to have a piece of plastic put on it so people will know it isn't real? Sigh... Yes, ma'am..."

6. Being alone when you aren't in costume. You'd think it wouldn't happen very often with more than 35,000 people around you, but sometimes you just can't find anybody you know to hang out with. :-(

7. Flying solo. The title of Boba Fett's biography and also a very boring way to travel.

8. Less costumes this year. Both on me and around me. I don't know, it just seemed like not a big year for costuming.

9. Shaving too fast. Yep, that's gonna bleed for a while. Too bad you gotta put on your nylons NOW and be at the costume contest in 5 minutes.

10. Not having my college friends there. Miss you!

Almost...there...

Well, it's nearly time to go to this thing that I've been waiting 5 years for. I am experiencing an issue that I don't have any colored lenses right now, so hopefully things will turn in my favor soon and I can get some in time. Same thing happened for CIII, which was the best convention I ever attended, so maybe it's a good sign?
